Clean out small drawers 1 by 1
In my home, there are 4 – 5 tables and each has 1 or two drawers. Find out such a smaller section. Start with 1 table drawer.
- Trash the unnecessary papers, manuals, old bills, small paper pieces, expired medicines, etc, etc, etc.
- Take out necessary stuff only and rearrange in the drawer after it’s clean.
- If completed 1 then start with another drawer.
Clean out papers and books
- Newspapers: If you have piles of newspapers, throw them out. Old papers are just clutters occupying space and make the place look clumsy. You may sell them to old paper/ book traders who can reuse them.
- Book Shelf: Rearrange the bookshelves. Find out books like novels, academic books of kids that you have already finished reading, and that is not used today and will not be used in the future. Try to donate them to the libraries or to the needy kids you know.
- Other piles of papers: Many times we store papers, medical bills, old prescriptions, user manuals. Sort out such stuff and trash everything that will not be needed. Trash out old cards, letters which are just an emotional burden now.
Start a small section of the wardrobe
- Take a smaller section like undergarments.
- Throw out old unused ones.
- Clean the drawer and rearrange.
- Check out your shoe rack and trash the broken and unused/ unnecessary items.
Declutter kid’s wardrobe
- Kids normally grow faster. Check out for the clothes that they have grown out. Donate to needy ones for the best.
Check out kid’s toys section
This is an easy decluttering activity. If you are a mom of a toddler, you will agree that these are the stuff scattered on the floor every time. And there is no way to stop them playing.
I clean the floor approximately 5 – 6 times in a day picking up toys to their respective place.
- Remove the toys that are broken and risky.
- Throw them immediately.
- Take out the old ones and keep it for donation to needy ones.
- Make a basket or box for the storage of such toys your kid plays every day.
- Make a separate basket for art & craft supplies.
It takes hardly 10 minutes. Lesser toy in the toy box is less scattered here and there.
